OBD-II/EOBD

As a result of vehicle emissions levels being reduced around the world, vehicle manufacturers have had to put more and more technology into the vehicles we drive today.

EOBD has been compulsory on all vehicle built from year 2000. (European ON-Board Diagnostics) this systems main function is related to emissions and you may have a light like this on your dash board should there be a fault:

if this light is on whilst driving your vehicle may very well have a emission related problem which could result in: poor performance, excess fuel consumption, catalytic converter damage etc. The only way the light can be extinguished is by accessing the EOBD system using a diagnostic computer.

Common parts found on most modern vehicles

oxygen sensor

crank sensor (tdc sensor)

cam sensor
